For all the job-huggers out there.
If you’re job hugging right now, you aren’t alone. Yet, what you do with this time can make all the difference once the labor market loosens.
Here are three practical tips:
Track your results and accomplishments at work. When I ask my clients about the metrics of their work, for example, the number of accounts they manage, or how they’ve improved social media engagement, they can’t tell me. This data is crucial for adding results to your resume and essential for demonstrating your ability as a contributor. I’ve created a free worksheet to help you with this.
Get your feelers out. Connect with colleagues, professional contacts, former classmates, and more. Everyone should be investing in their professional network right now. Start small, make it a goal to connect with one person a month. If you need to grow your network, try attending an alumni event hosted by your alma mater, or initiate conversations with folks in your church or local community organizations.
Get curious about your job, and find a new topic, certification, or challenge to master. Initiate a conversation with your supervisor about an area you’d like to grow in. Also, check out the free resources offered by your local library–many offer professional development resources like LinkedIn Learning.
