Hello! I’m Abby.
My first job out of college was truly awful. After graduating in the midst of the last Great Recession with a humanities major and $65K in student loan debt, I made less than $30K a year working in a windowless basement that flooded.
My job? Telling people they couldn’t graduate from college. It was sad, soul-sucking work.
Despite its drudgery, I honed in on my strengths and interests, crafting a career trajectory, a vision for what could be.
My path to finding my joyful work hasn’t ended, and neither has yours. At each job and major life change, I reevaluate, using the wisdom and tools I have gained, and I am here to help you do the same.
I founded the Joyful Work Co. because I wholeheartedly believe that work can be enjoyable, engaging, and meaningful, and I love accompanying people on their path to joyful work.
Tell me about yourself.
My favorite interview question!
All joking aside, I am a working mom of three beautiful humans and one fluffy pup, an amateur gardener, and birdwatcher. I live and play in West Michigan and love spending time outside with my husband and kiddos.
For 15+ years, I have developed programs, supported, and advised adults on their path to professional and academic success. I can’t wait to join your journey of discovery and growth.
My first job was probably babysitting, but my first real job was working in a now-obsolete bookstore as a cashier during the holiday season. I don’t want to date myself too much here, but it was back in the pre-Amazon days. I honestly believe that everyone should work at least one retail or food service job in their lives.
What is it like to work with you?
There is no magic formula for career satisfaction or success. I will guide you through a research-backed process for career exploration and development, creating space for reflection and creativity while developing stellar resumes, cover letters, and enduring relationships with my clients.
A lot of my clients tell me they appreciate how I support them through a process of career change with genuine care. I bring a wholehearted approach to my work and cultivate space for meaningful reflection and dialogue. They also appreciate the resources and feedback I provide for career exploration, strength mapping, and optimizing resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.
“Abby was a tremendous mentor, resource, and cheerleader as I transitioned careers and investigated other professional and educational opportunities.”
